Want to create a Stone Wall?

My visits to Rajasthan were filled with such sights, such walls erected around schools and government offices and buildings. It’s easy to spot them even now whenever you visit places in Rajasthan and your eyes are open for architectural discoveries.

A close-up view of a textured stone wall under construction, with earthy surroundings and vegetation in the background.

Pardon the quality of the picture above but you get the idea, I hope.

These walls can stand forever if the pieces of stone are bound well. They barely need any upkeep or maintenance efforts. And lend the project such a character.

The thing about showing such walls is that you need to photograph them from a fair distance, which is often not possible. They feel amazing in actual anyway.

Here’s what we can offer in case you desire to create a wall like that.

A stack of rectangular stone blocks resting on a bed of smaller stone fragments, showcasing the materials used for constructing robust walls.

What kind of walls have you planned for your project? Do not let them be painted and bland. There are better ways to erect walls.

Chinese Lattice, or Black and White Cobbles

Showing 2 patterns in Black and White cobblestone.

A close-up view of a black and white cobblestone pattern, showcasing linear curves made from rectangular cobbles with well-defined edges and a consistent surface finish.

These are rectangular cobbles finished with shot-blasting. Edges are well-defined. And the surface is finished to a consistent level.

Here’s the second pattern in contrast to the above one.

Circular pattern of black and white cobblestones arranged in concentric circles, showcasing well-defined edges and a smooth surface.

Yessss, creating Chinese Lattice with cobblestone is doable. And doesn’t that look amazing! The first one is linear long curves. The second one is angular and intricate.

Does your project have the space, the imagination and the hands to for such beautiful patterns?

We cannot manufacture natural patterns

It is impossible.

You can’t print the endless, you can’t print the beauty of the endless quirks.

And that is why, irrespective of the price we put on stone and pay, stone is arguably the most precious thing available for our experiences and spaces and movements.

Vitrified Tile is an abomination in the name of creating spaces for our living and for our experiences. Sure it costs much cheaper than most natural stone but the story typically stops at just that. Over a life time, you can’t fall in love with the vitrified. It will glaze and gloss and you won’t understand what’s really the loss!

Check this picture of Mint Stone piece for modular elevation design.

The Patterns of Matrix Marble

Time to share glimpses of Matrix Grey-Black  Marble.

A large slab of Matrix Grey-Black Marble with deep textures and bold patterns, displayed indoors.

A large slab of Matrix Grey-Black Marble with deep colors and bold patterns, displayed in a warehouse setting.

These are large slabs and meant for large spaces. The deep colors and bold patterns of the marble also demand good space.

Is there a big-space that you are working on?

Almost feels like 3D. Has to be given space to enjoy its beauty.

One might ask, what if we want to use this in small spaces? In which case we would say that you need to figure and determine the color-palette for your space, especially indoors. Then you may be able to make great use of this marble.

We will write a bit more on Color Palette for your projects as time goes by.

2 more patterns with Cobblestone

It feels like small sized stone bring an endless stimulation. An perennial trigger to imagine things.

Look at this pattern.

Patterned cobblestone driveway in progress, featuring circular designs and a mix of colors, showcasing depth and texture.

Work in progress for a driveway. Colors are sorted but mingling all the same. Looking at the pattern and colors in this pic, the feeling is one of enchanting depth.

Now look at another pattern.

Cobblestone driveway in progress featuring circular patterns in alternating shades of gray, pink, and white, creating an enchanting depth.

There are 4 colors and the cobbles are well-sorted based on the colors. The patterns in paving make interesting use alternating colors. Pic of work in progress, it would be interesting to see how it looks at the end.

Fascinating! How are you shaping your project? Would cobble patterns make your project interesting?

Soffedge Cobbles | Ideal for Paving

Have you experienced machine-cut cobbles? Not just while laying but while walking on them, especially walking barefoot?

These Soffedge Cobbles are an upgraded version, you can say. Demand a special process to assume these soft edges. They’ve got a look, no? And you can experience the  softness of the edges while walking on them too.

Work in Progress | Resort at Udaipur

A view of a resort construction site in Udaipur, showcasing a pathway made with multi-color machine-cut cobbles, surrounded by landscaping and mountains in the background.

Udaipur is the destination for ‘destination wedding’, right?

This picture was clicked last year. A resort project in progress. By now, it would all be over and done I guess.

You can see the laying of multi-color machine-cut cobbles with surface dimension of 5.5″ * 5.5″. Looks pretty even in the unfinished look.

Imagine vitrified tiles used in a city like Udaipur that has such rich architectural heritage. Blasphemy! And yet they are doing it all the over the place, the silly straight-lined aluminium panelled hotels.

At places, you see windows made with the classic royal palace-like window-frames, and then floored with vitrified tiles. Pukish when you realise the kind of minds at work.

Horror!

Paving with Rock-face Black Basalt Cobbles

Paved basalt cobbles create an aesthetically pleasing pathway surrounded by green grass and shrubs.

This picture barely offers any view of the project, and yet these paved basalt cobbles look so pleasing. The reason? Just the space and expanse available for all the natural stone. (You bet vitrified can’t look any good, no matter the space available.)

Natural Stone demands land, demands space. The more the space the more amazing they feel.

Do you have a project which has ample space? We can offer interesting options of natural stone and contribute to your project. Try.

Work in Progress | Cobble Stone Pattern

For vitrified tiles (factory created surface element, to put in another way) one can copy natural surface patterns in all sorts of sizes: 2-ft by 2-ft, 4-ft by 2-ft and larger too now. When we say ‘copy’, it is not ‘copying’ like lab-diamonds. It is ‘copying’ only for the purpose of ‘printing’ like one prints on paper or fabric or any other surface. Quite obviously they can’t actually compose natural stone. They can’t make cobbles. THEY CAN’T MAKE NATURE.

They can’t make patterns like these either. You can’t make such patterns and lay vitrified tiles like these. There are no vitrified cobbles. You can’t print cobbles. You can’t print cobble-patterns. Vitrified can’t have the endurance of cobbles either.

Of course, you can use machine-made cement pavers. And that’s another story. Some other day.

Do you have a project where cobbles can play a role, can lend some natural beauty?

Flooring Patterns

We can broadly classify flooring patterns into 2:

  • Natural Pattern
  • Man-made Pattern

And a third pattern that can probably have a balanced mix of the above 2. Let’s call it Mixed Pattern.

Using large slabs of stone, granite or marble in flooring means you are depending on the natural patterns to lend beauty to the flooring and over-all design of the space.

On the other hand, using stone, granite or marble of relatively smaller dimensions in flooring means you are introducing man-made patterns to combine with natural patterns to lend beauty to the design of the space.

Big slabs would disappoint your eyes sooner than latter. Look at the flooring of places you visit carefully.

Floor Design using Marble

Have a look at these pictures. This floor was done about 2 decades back. May be more.

A beautifully crafted floor featuring a star-shaped design made from various stones, showcasing intricate border detailing and an organic layout.

This is a view while sitting on the sofa on this very floor.

Now check this picture taken from a height.

Aerial view of a living room showcasing a beautifully designed patterned floor with a floral motif, white marble finish, and decorative stone borders. A sofa and coffee table are arranged, with a television visible in the background.

Amazing isn’t it! The architect did a such fine job of defining the boundaries of the drawing-room space. Non-rectangular! Organic. Has a charm. Never tiring.

Those border lines, with winding-vine like look, are done in stone. That’s right! Such neat hands. Takes an artist to do such stuff. KARIGARI!

Here’s one more picture, again taken from a height, at a slightly different angle:

Aerial view of a beautifully designed floor featuring a star-shaped pattern in warm colors, with intricate stone borders and surrounding areas highlighting the organic layout of the drawing-room and dining space.

On the extreme right, a couple of steps above, is the dining space.

As charming as this floor is, it took a lot of patience on the part of the house-owner along with others, to see it through. Do you have patience to create a beautiful floor for your house?

Once you get such a beautiful floor done, it would dictate the choice for other elements of interior design of the house. And floor doesn’t allow the bar for quality and artistry go any lower.

Floor Design using Natural Stone

Look at this floor. Good chance that if you like watching TV you may have come across this.

Oh no! This floor wasn’t featured for its beauty in the first place, it just happens to be a part of a corruption story from Delhi. You guessed it?

Irrespective of the story, just look at the floor. This floor couldn’t be done without top-notch masons and natural stone.

Interior view of a living room featuring elegant brown leather sofas, a wooden coffee table with a stone top, and a patterned floor with a stylish border.

Isn’t it wow!

So many house-builders and owners aren’t patient enough for a thing that will (or should) last probably a lifetime or many lifetimes.

Don’t let vitrified tiles fool your senses.

4 Feet by 4 Feet Stone Flooring

Here’s a picture of square 4′ * 4′ Kota Stone flooring.

Don’t mind the picture quality. Perhaps shot indoors with a mobile phone. Besides, it is always difficult to photograph floors or flooring, no matter the design or patterns. You never get the height you desire; and creating perspectives are to show attractive flooring indoors are so difficult. Remember, floors are for the soles of your feet and for your body in space, more than for your eyes.

River-finished Stone for Flooring in a Farmhouse

So some makers do try interesting things.

Here’s a video of work-in-progress of flooring being done in a room at a farmhouse. The same floor is getting done in all the rooms.

River-finished stone in brown color. Size is 1600 mm * 1200 mm and thickness is in the range of 22 mm to 30 mm. Have a look below. It’s short.

Someone who has different ideas may want a glossy floor. But the point to remember is that as much as floor and interior design is meant for the eyes, it is equally meant for your soles of your feet and for your body to feel good in.

Paving Paths with Cobblestone

A pic of work-in-progress, paving cobbles for pathway for a residential society.

Not sure if the picture gives you an exact idea of the color of these cobbles. They are brown. In the language of stone, brown may be slightly different from what one understands in other contexts.

Size: 150 mm * 150 mm on the surface side, thickness 40 to 60 mm.

Somewhat similar to cobblestones are flagstones; they are mostly irregularly shaped and have bigger surface area. If someone attempts flagstone flooring indoors, should make that space ever-attractive.

Boundary Wall Stone Grill at a Public Park

Have a look at this work-in-progress:

This is installed in a boundary wall at a public park.

Reminiscent of classic, ancient, old-time designs that live for hundreds of years. At plenty of places over the years, folks have installed cement grills because they come cheap, but are they any match to this? Even in this work-in-progress pic it looks so charming.

Are you working on a bungalow project? Or a farm-house project? You think these could look beautiful in your space and architectural plans?
